Happy Brain Clinic offers selected online therapy, consultation and assessment services for children, adolescents and adults in Lebanon and for Lebanese families living abroad. Sessions may be available in Arabic, English or French. In-person care remains available at our clinic in Tyre, South Lebanon. Explore our speech therapy, occupational therapy, psychomotor therapy and psychotherapy services.

Online care is not a one-size-fits-all solution. Before starting, the clinician considers the person’s goals, age, communication and motor needs, attention, safety, technology, home environment and the rules that apply where the patient is located. Some people benefit from fully online care; others need in-person or hybrid sessions.

How online therapy works

  1. Initial contact: Tell us the patient’s age, main concerns, preferred language, country and time zone.
  2. Suitability consultation: A clinician recommends online, in-person or hybrid care and explains whether a caregiver or facilitator should attend.
  3. Individual plan: Sessions are adapted to the person’s profile, daily routines and meaningful goals.
  4. Live sessions and home strategies: The therapist may use conversation, screen sharing, interactive activities, movement, household materials, parent coaching and guided practice.
  5. Progress review: Goals and delivery format are reviewed regularly and can be changed when needed.

What does the research say about telepractice?

Research supports telepractice as a useful service-delivery option for selected patients, but results vary by condition, intervention and individual circumstances.

Speech and language therapy

A 2024 systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized trials found broadly similar outcomes between live telehealth and face-to-face speech-language pathology for the conditions studied, including stuttering, Parkinson-related speech difficulties, speech sound disorders, voice disorders and post-stroke communication difficulties. The number of trials was small, so online care should still be selected case by case.

Occupational therapy and developmental rehabilitation

A review of 55 studies, including 29 randomized trials, examined telerehabilitation for children and young people with developmental disabilities across six diagnostic groups and ten health professions. Reported outcomes included motor function, behavior, language and parent confidence. The review found telerehabilitation promising when face-to-face care is limited, while also noting that the strength of evidence varied. A separate review of 18 randomized pediatric tele-occupational-therapy studies included children with cerebral palsy, autism, traumatic brain injury, ADHD and other movement-related conditions.

Psychology, psychotherapy and psychiatry

A 2023 meta-analysis of 32 randomized studies involving 3,592 participants across 11 mental-health conditions found no significant overall difference in symptom improvement when telepsychiatry was compared with face-to-face treatment. Results differed for some diagnoses, reinforcing the need for individual clinical screening and local support when required.

Psychomotor therapy

Direct research on online psychomotor therapy remains limited. Selected goals may be supported through therapist-guided movement activities, parent coaching, regulation strategies and home-based practice when the space is safe and participation is appropriate. Standardized motor testing, tactile guidance and goals requiring hands-on observation may need in-person or hybrid care.

Which goals may be suitable online?

Speech and language therapy

  • Speech sound production and intelligibility
  • Receptive and expressive language
  • Fluency and stuttering support
  • Voice therapy when remote delivery is clinically suitable
  • Literacy, reading and written language
  • Social communication, AAC support and communication-partner training
  • Parent coaching and home-language strategies

Occupational and psychomotor support

  • Daily routines, independence and participation at home or school
  • Organization, attention and executive-function strategies
  • Fine-motor, handwriting and visual-motor activities using suitable home materials
  • Body awareness, coordination, motor planning and self-regulation activities when safe
  • Parent coaching and individualized home programs

Psychology and psychotherapy

  • Anxiety, stress, depression and adjustment difficulties
  • Parent guidance and behavioral support
  • Emotional regulation, coping skills and selected trauma-related goals
  • Follow-up and continuity of care for suitable adolescents and adults

Important: Online sessions are not an emergency service. A person in immediate danger, experiencing a mental-health crisis or needing urgent medical care should contact the emergency services or crisis resources in their current country.

Online and standardized assessments

Interviews, questionnaires, observation, parent or teacher consultation and some validated tasks may be completed online. Not every standardized test is valid for remote administration. The clinician checks the test publisher’s instructions, the person’s linguistic and educational background, the quality of audio and video, and whether the original administration conditions can be respected. Any changes to standardized procedures must be documented. Some evaluations therefore require an in-person appointment in Tyre or a hybrid pathway.

How to prepare for an online session

  • Use a laptop or tablet when possible and place it on a stable surface.
  • Test the camera, microphone and speakers before the appointment. Headphones can improve sound and privacy when appropriate.
  • Use a stable internet connection. ASHA recommends consistent high-quality audio and video and notes that approximately 3-5 Mbps upload and download speed can support telepractice.
  • Choose a quiet, private, well-lit room and reduce background noise and interruptions.
  • Keep the patient’s face, hands or full body visible when requested by the clinician.
  • Prepare any simple materials requested in advance, such as paper, pencils, toys, books or household objects.
  • For a child, an adult may need to remain nearby to manage technology, support attention, provide materials or help with safe activities.
  • Tell the clinic which country and time zone you are in. For mental-health sessions, the clinician may also request a local emergency contact.
  • Keep a phone available as a backup if the video connection fails.

Arabic, English and French sessions

Happy Brain supports multilingual Lebanese families. The clinician considers all languages used at home, school and work when planning assessment and therapy. Availability depends on the service, therapist and patient location.
